Birchbox Review: November 2013 - Joie, Wei, Chella and BeeKind

I wanted to share what I got in my November Birchbox before my December box arrives! Better late than never, right?

BeeKind Body Lotion

8 oz. $15 - sample size 2 oz. I think
I really liked this lotion and somehow managed to lose it before I even took photos.  Sorry for using a stock photo, but I wanted to at least be able to show you what the full size looks like.  I was going to order the full size anyway, but now it is a must order asap! I loved the texture, the fragrance and the price is right, too.  The texture is light, somewhere between a gel and a lotion and it is quickly absorbed into my skin.  The fragrance is light, too.  It is predominantly lemon verbena scented, but the naturally hydrating ingredients, honey & chamomile also add to the scent.  And at only $15 I think it is a steal.  Especially considering that a portion of the proceeds goes toward honey bee research.  I definitely recommend trying it out!

Chella Highlighter Pencil - Ivory Lace
1.4g $18 - sample size 1.4g
I actually already had one of these from my IPSY glam bag, so I knew I liked it.  It is a creamy, easily blendable highlighter that I think would work well with many skin tones.  I use it all over my eye area, brow bone, inner corner, sometimes even all over my lid as a brightening base.  I haven't used it anywhere else, but it says it can be used all over your face, even as a concealer.

Wei Golden Root Purifying Mud Mask

8 masks 8ml $42 - sample size 1 mask 8ml

I really like this mud mask!  The scent is light and pleasant.  The texture is light, too.  It actually looks more like chocolate pudding than mud :)  I wore the mask for 15 minutes and there was a slight tingling/tightening as it dried, but nothing uncomfortable or extreme like some other mud masks I've tried before.  After 15 minutes, the mask was dry and I washed it off with a warm wash cloth.  After rinsing it off, my skin was so soft and smooth.  I would run out and buy this mask now if I wasn't so torn about the packaging.  At first, I thought the individual mask pods were a great idea because I go a while between masks, probably too long, and since the masks are individually packaged they will stay fresh longer.  But, then I opened the pod and applied the mask and saw how much product was going to be wasted!  I very generously applied the mask face and neck and I still had about 1/4 left in the pod.  These masks are not cheap, they break down to $5.25 a pod and that kind of waste makes me crazy.  So, I'm not sure if I'm going to take the plunge and buy this one even though I do really like the mask.

Wei Pomegranate Buffing Beads
twenty 0.5g packets $20 - sample size Two 0.5g packets
I'm not sure what to think about this product.  Each packet contains the dry part of a scrub, finely milled pomegranate peel and buffing beads.   You mix the contents of the packet with a quarter size amount of your favorite cleanser.  I decided to try this mixed with my Philosophy Purity cleanser.  The scrub had a medium to coarse grit, which I liked.  After using it my skin felt softer and smoother.  It is not the best scrub I've ever used, but it worked well.  I'm just still confused about the concept.  Maybe it would be a good idea for someone who travels a lot, but I just don't see these packets as a useful concept for me.  I would rather just buy another scrub.

Folle de Joie eau de parfum
3.4 fl.oz. $98 - sample size 1.06 fl.oz.
I do not usually get too excited when I see another perfume vial considered a "deluxe sample" in my birchbox, but I did appreciate that it was at least a high end fragrance.  I also ended up really liking it!  It has citrus, floral notes and a warm, woodsy base.  I really liked the complexity of the fragrance.  I'm not sure yet if I'm going to spring for the full size, but I will certainly enjoy using this sample! Maybe I'll add it to my Christmas list :)

Lifestyle Extra:
Mighty Leaf Tea Pouches

15 pouches $9.95 - sample size 3 pouches
I got 3 tea bags, Vanilla Bean, Green Tea Tropical and Organic African Nectar.  I know a lot of people don't like receiving these non-beauty related lifestyle extras, but I do.  I think its fun to get a random surprise.  I am usually more of a coffee drinker, but I am really excited to try these.  They smell amazing!  With that said, I can't try them yet because I'm 8 months pregnant!  Yup, there is a little baby beautyscraps coming my way and it's a boy!  So, I am very excited to try this tea in a couple months once baby has arrived and is keeping me up all night :)
