My 2014 Project Life Album: Week Three

Another week down! Here is a look at Week 3 of my Project Life!

Just about everything on the left page of my Week 3 layout is from the January Gossamer Blue Life Pages Kit.  I love that guest check card and it fit in perfectly this week!  The only things that were not included in the Gossamer Blue LP Kit this month was the title card which is from the We R Memory Keepers Tangerine Kit and the letter stickers.

The right side of my Week 3 layout ended up being much more eclectic.
Top 2 Cards: The teal paper for the top 2 cards was from a sn@p pages 6x6 paper pad from Michaels.  I picked it up on clearance for about $1.50 lsat week so check out your Michaels!  I think it is going to be really handy in my PL album.  I also used an old Project 365 journal card on my top left card.  The top 2 cards also have a mix of random die cuts.  Some are from my Gossamer Blue Kit this month, there are a few old making memories, a random flower and I even cut up some packaging from my Birchox and IPSY bag this month!
Middle 3x4 Cards: The 2 cards on the left are from the We R Memory Keepers Tangerine Kit.  The next card I made with scraps of patterned paper and leftover stickers.  The far right card is from the Gossamer Blue January Life Pages Kit.
Bottom 2 Cards: The bottom left card is from a Recollections Journal card pad called Sunny Skies from Michaels.  This was another good clearance find.  The bottom right card is from the We R Memory Keepers Tangerine Kit.  The die cuts are from the Gossamer Blue January Life pages kit.  I finally worked in some of those transparent die cuts! woohoo!

And, as I type this I am almost finished with week 4! Hopefully I will wrap that up and share it with you soon!

IPSY Glam Bag Swatches and Review: January 2014 Benefit, Absolute, Yaby, Balanced Guru and Malin and Goetz

So, lets take a look and see what is inside my January IPSY Glam bag!  The bag itself is okay this month, aside from being stinky... It aired out after a few days but as soon as I opened the package, I was hit with a strong, plasticky smell.  It was not cute.

But, it is what's inside that counts and I was really excited to try out the products in my January bag!

Absolute Pomegranate Makeup Cleansing Tissue
10 count $2.49
I love trying new makeup remover wipes, but these were awful!  The only good thing about them was the scent.  The pomegranate smell was very nice and refreshing, but that was where the love ended for me.  The cloth itself was thin and started to fall apart as I scrubbed to get my makeup off.  And, I had to scrub to get my makeup off because the formula did nothing to dissolve my makeup.  Forget eye makeup, these couldn't even take off my foundation.  These were really very disappointing.

Benefit The POREfessional Primer
0.75 fl.oz. $30
I have received samples of this before, but never tried it until now. Now I know what all the fuss is about!  It feels amazing on my skin and really does help diminish the look of pores and fine lines. I do not use a primer in my daily routine, but I like to have one for special occasions or when I feel like my skin just needs extra help. I usually use Smashbox and I am really happy with it, but I do like this one even more.  When my Smashbox primer runs out I think I will be replacing it with this one.

Yaby Liquid Foundation - Buff
.272 fl. oz. $13.99
I was pleasantly surprised by this foundation.  Not only did I enjoy the formula, but the color (Buff) was actually a good match for my skin.  I would call it a medium coverage foundation.  It covered what I needed covered and evened my skin tone, but still looked natural.  It lasted all day without looking splotchy or oxidizing.  I guess the only thing I'm not sure about is the price.  The size I received is pretty small and looking at the website it appears to be the full size.  That makes it a great value for my glam bag, but pretty pricey for a foundation.  For the price, I do like other high end foundations better and there are other drugstore foundations I have tried that work just as well for less.

Malin+Goetz Mojito Lip Balm
.35 oz. $12
This little fellow was a surprise.  See how it calls itself a lip balm? Well it is totally a lip gloss.  If I handed this to Mr. BeautyScraps when he asked for a lip balm, he would not be amused.  Don't get me wrong, I love it, but it is tricky!  It is actually veery similar feeling to the C.O. Bigelow Mentha Lip Shines that I love so much from Bath & Body Works.  It feels very moisturizing, has a fresh taste/scent and it is super glossy, but not sticky.  The flavor is much more mild than the Mentha lip shines so if those are too much for you, you should give this a try.

Balanced Guru
Balm Me Up Organic Sweet Cocoa & Tangy Body Balm
4 oz. $45
Now 9 months pregnant, I'm trying all sorts of creams and balms on my fully expanded belly.  I really loved the way this balm melted into my skin.  It does feel a bit greasy at first, but not sticky if that makes sense.  It pretty much turns to an oil at your body temperature.  It has been great on my belly and I have also enjoyed using it on my hands, feet and elbows.  The scent is a very bright, natural citrus scent, but it actually dies away quite quickly after application.  It is probably a bit too pricy for me to indulge in the full size, but I will enjoy the sample.

So, that was my January IPSY bag!

Bye Bye Loves: My Beauty Empties for January 2014

I can't believe that January is already coming to an end! Where did this month go?!?  Ok, let's take a look at what products I used up this month...

Stila Lip Glaze - Starfruit 30
Full Size $22
I probably should have swatched this before I used it all up, but this one kinda snuck up on me.  I rarely see the end of a lip gloss and this one looked like it had a bit left still.  Starfruit is a pinky coral with a slight shimmer.  I'm not a fan of glitter lips, but I did like the slight shimmer in this gloss.  It was delicate looking.  This is one of the smaller ones that you often find in a trio.  It is an easy to wear shade that goes well with many different looks and colors. I certainly don't *need* more lip gloss, but I would repurchase this shade.  It is hard to find a lip color that is so easy to wear!

E.L.F Studio Makeup Remover Cleansing Cloths
20 Cloths $3
I'm still on my search for my holy grail makeup remover cloth, but for right now, these are my favorite for the money.  The cloth is a bit too thin for my liking, but they do stay moist and do a good job removing all of my makeup.  And, $3 for 20 cloths is not too bad.  I continue to buy and try others, but I keep these in the rotation :)

Covergirl Lash Blast Volume Mascara - Very Black
.44 fl.oz. $6.23
We all know my favorite mascara is Bare Minerals Flawless Definition Mascara, but that one is pricey at $18.  If you are on a budget or looking for a drugstore alternative, give this one a try.  I think it is a great everyday mascara.  The wand is fatter than I like, but it is still pretty easy to work with.  The little plastic bristles really get in there and find your lashes.  It really defines my lashes and gives them volume as it promises.  It wears really well; it does not smudge or flake off throughout the day.  It may not be my all time favorite, but it is my favorite drugstore mascara.  I will certainly repurchase it.

Bath & Body Works
True Blue Spa - Shea Cashmere Hand Cream
2.5 fl.oz. $12.50
I love the silky, soft feeling of this hand cream!  It is too heavy for me to use in the Spring and Summer, but it is perfect for my dry hands in Fall and Winter.  I love the smell, too.  It is a warm, spicy vanilla scent.  I have gone through quite a few of these and I will continue to repurchase.  Keep an eye out for buy 2 get 1 free sales!

Zoya Remove+ Polish Remover
2 fl.oz. $4.60
I got this little guy free with one of my Zoya purchases.  I really like this remover.  It is not my first and won't be my last :) For my full review Click Here to see my Bye Bye Loves November post.

Bath & Body Works Fresh Pineapple Volumizing Shampoo
12 fl. oz. $3 on Clearance Discontinued
I usually pick up a few of these during the Bath & Body Works Semi Annual Sales for about $3 each.  I haven't seen them around as much, but I still have a little stash.  They are good, about drugstore quality shampoos in a variety of fun fragrances.  When they are really gone for good, I'll survive, but they are fun!

Classic HiHo Oatmeal, Milk & Honey Moisturizing Milkbath
32 Bubbly Ounces - Price ?
This was a gift from a local shop so I'm not sure about the price.  I really liked it though!  I love anything honey scented, but this was very moisturizing, too.  And, it is huge!  This one lasted me quite a while.  I'm definitely going to have to check out the shop it is from and pick up another one.

The White Barn Candle Co. French Vanilla
15 oz. $17.00 Discontinued
Yes, yes... we all know I'm a candle hoarder! Remember these?  I can't even say it is my last one.  I have a bit of a stash.  For those of you that don't remember, these are the old style candles from Bath & Body Works.  The new ones are fantastic, too, I just bought a bunch of these on clearance when they were being discontinued and I'm slowly working my way through them.  I think I'm going to try to clean up the jar and use it in my craft room.

White Barn The Perfect Christmas: Tree Home Fragrance Oil
0.33 fl.oz. $7.50 Seasonal
I love burning this oil while I have my Christmas Tree up!  It smells just like a fresh cut Christmas Tree!  I actually took my tree down the first week in January which is super early for me.  I love leaving my tree up for as long as possible, but with baby on the way I thought I should get it done "early" this year.  This oil is fantastic.  It seems pricey for a little bottle, but a little goes a long, long way!  It is Seasonal, but every year Bath & Body Works comes out with something like this and I pick up one or two.

Have you tried any of these items before?
What did you think of them?

Sunday Samples: Kiehl's Creme de Corps The Original Rich Nourishing Cream Review

 Kiehl's Creme de Corps
The Original Rich Nourishing Cream

My deluxe sample size is only 1 fl. oz. but it lasted about a week.  I used it mostly on my stretched out, 38 weeks pregnant belly.  I really liked using it before bed because it felt so moisturizing and also absorbed instantly into my skin.  I hate the feeling of my pajamas sticking to my skin when my moisturizer just sits on top!

It is also a great body lotion for day time use because it truly is fragrance free.  I enjoy lotions with fragrance, too, but sometimes you just want a fragrance free moisturizer that won't interfere with your choice of spray fragrance.   I am always surprised by how hard it is to find a lotion that truly is fragrance free and seriously this smells like nothing, like air.

The full size, shown above is 8.4 fl. oz. for $29.50
or 16.9 fl. oz. for $48.
So, this is certainly a splurge.  I do not often splurge on body care items.  It is funny because I easily do splurge on face care.  Next time I do, it may just be on this lotion.  Maybe after baby BeautyScraps is born :)

My 2014 Project Life Album: Week Two

Week 2 of My Project Life 2014

Left Page

Almost everything I used this week is from my Gossamer Blue January 2014 Life Pages Kit.  You can Click Here to see my "unboxing post" of everything included in the kit.  The only thing that isn't from the kit is the bottom left card.  That was just a random scrap of patterned paper that I thought fit the color scheme.  I needed a lot of 4x6 cards this week because almost all my photos were printed on my little Zink Happy Printer.  I'm pretty happy with my little printer, but I really need a 4x6 photo printer!

Right Page

Just about everything on this side was from the Gossamer Blue Kit, too!  I was really obsessed with the printables this week!  All of the die cuts are this month's Gossamer Blue printables that I cut out.  I also used the stamp set this week, the flair badges, wood veneers and enamel dots.  I just need to figure out how to work in the Studio Calico transparent words! But, I knew I would have trouble with that, lol. Next week!

The only things that are not from the kit are the top & bottom left cards.  Again, because I only used one 4x6 photo this week, I needed more 4x6 cards than I normally would.
Top Card: The base card is from the WRMK Tangerine Kit
Bottom Card: The orange patterned paper base is a scrap as is the green punched border.  And, the journal card layered on top is a leftover from my original Project 365 Kit.

Oh and I wanted to point out that I worked in a gift card, too! That cute little froggy is my used Ikea gift card :)

My 2014 Project Life Album: Week One

I need to get a photo printer!  I feel like it took forever to get these photos from Snapfish! It is hard to keep up with Project Life when you are waiting on photos all the time.  I've heard a lot about the Cannon Selphy... any other suggestions?

For the Left side of Week 1, I used a lot of photos and very few new cards!  I cut down 2 photos and used them in the 3x4 slots and I used 1 full 4x6 photo in the bottom right slot.

I also used the back sides of the cards that I used on my cover page.  The top right card is the back of the "Embark on adventures" card from the WRMK Blackboard kit.  The "i love us" card, also from the WRMK Blackboard kit, is the back side if the "remember this" journaling card from my cover page.  The bottom right card is the back of the card from the PL Just Add Color Kit where I wrote 2014 on my cover page.

I really only used 2 new cards on this page and they are very old cards from my original Project 365 Kit!  I did not have a lot leftover after Project 365, but I want to try to use the bits I have left for my 2014 Project Life.  The 2 cards from that kit are the "Week of" title card and the matching 3x4 card.  The Wednesday and Sunday stickers are also from my original Project 365 Kit and all of the die cuts are the printable cut outs from my January 2014 Gossamer Blue Life Pages Kit.

For the right side of Week 1, I used my January Gossamer Blue Life Pages Kit.  Everything is from the kit except the scrap of orange patterned paper and ribbon on the bottom right card.

One week down, 51 to go :)

Birchbox Swatches and Review: January 2014 including Harvey Prince, Fekkai, Coastal Scents and Burt's Bees

It is that time again! So what was inside my first Birchbox of 2014?

The card on the left that says Hello 2014 is actually a set of 5 cards and on the back of each card there are tips for making 2014 your best year yet.  Resolution suggestions sort of.  I may try to use them in my Project Life album actually.

The center card is a coupon for $3 off any Burt's Bees Intense Hydration Face Care Product because the Day Lotion from that line was included as this Month's Birchbox Find.  A "find" is considered an affordable/drugstore product that is included as an extra in the monthly box.  It is not in place of the 4-5 high end monthly samples.

Then the right card is the normal Monthly card that explains the month's theme and lists what is included in your box.  This month the message is about resolutions.  Rather than resolving to give things up, Birchbox suggests focusing on taking on more and enriching your life and world for 2014.

So, here is the line up.  Just feels kinda light to me.  Not a great big bang start to the new year...  First of all, there are 4 samples instead of 5 plus the Birchbox find.  Ok, ok, that is the minimum they say they will include but, one item is a perfume sample and the shampoo and conditioner each count separately.  It just feels a bit cheap.  Don't get me wrong, I really liked all of the products this month.  It just felt a little light on product.  They really should have included at least one more thing.  But, I'll stop whining :)  On to the product reviews!

Harvey Prince Journey
Full Size 50ml $55
I'm a Harvey Prince fan.  When I got the Harvey Prince Hello sample in one of my previous Birchboxes I had to buy the full size.  I'm sold on this one, too!  I prefer Hello, but I love this one, too.  As soon as I put it on, Mr. BeautyScraps asked what it was and then if I was buying it, lol.  It is a beautiful, complex fragrance and it is a Birchbox exclusive.  The card describes the fragrance as "exotic, inspiring and full of surprises" with notes of Indian Tuberose, Turkish Cyclamen, Spanish Mandarin, South African Freesia, Japanese Orange Flower, Moroccan Rose, Spicy Indonesian Clove Bud and Australian Sandalwood.  Yeah, that's all in there! And, I love it.  Adding to cart now :)

Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Shampoo & Conditioner
Full Size 8 fl. oz. $19.99
I have used these before and I do really like them.  They make my hair look healthy and shiny.  I just don't see quite enough of a difference in my hair to justify the price.  I do use the Fekkai Glossing Cream and Glossing Mist, too.  I prefer to use less expensive shampoos and conditioners for daily use and add in a more expensive treatment or styling product when needed.  These are great though! I'll happily finish them up :)

Coastal Scents Revealed Eye Shadow Palette Sampler
Full Size Palette $34
So the full size palette from Birchbox also includes brushes and costs $34.  If you get the full size palette from Coastal Scents it comes without brushes for $19.95 and they often have sales.  I have actually had my eye on this palette for a while now.  I have seen many blogs and vlogs comparing it to the Urban Decay Naked palettes.  These little samples were a great way to test them out.  They have good pigmentation and I love the neutral shades.  I'm definitely going to buy the full palette but I'll wait for a sale at Coastal Scents.

Burt'd Bees Intense Hydration Day Lotion
Full Size 1.8 oz. $18
Last, but not least was the Birchbox "find" or extra for the month.  There was a $3 off coupon included in the box, too and you can also print one at if you want one, too.  I really liked this moisturizer.  I'm not sure why it is a day lotion.  It is fairly heavy feeling.  I would say it could be a day lotion if you have very dry skin, but I used this mostly as a night cream.  My skin gets quite dry in the winter, even more so this winter than ever so I gave it a try as a day lotion, too.  As long as I apply it 10-15 before applying makeup it worked fine as a day lotion.  It just needs a bit of time to absorb before I can apply my makeup.  I still prefered it as a night cream and I think most skin types would, too.  Oh, and I try not to focus too much on the smell of my skin care, but I have to say that this one smells amazing!  Seriously, if there was a spray fragrance in this line, I would jump on it!

So, that's about it! Do you subscribe to Birchbox?

Scraptastic Diagonal Challenge January 2014

I just loved the 3rd challenge at Scraptastic this month!  The challenge was to create a layout with a diagonal focus.  You can view the challenge HERE on their blog.  I love how it turned out.  I think I mostly love it because I love this paper!

I used the Scraptastic December Home for the Holidays kit,  ribbon scrap, an old making memories fabric tab and some Recollections embellishments from Michaels.

Scraptastic Page Maps January Challenge

Page Maps teamed up with Scraptastic this month for a sketch challenge.  I love the sketch (shown below) so I decided to give it a try.  I really like how it turned out! It is a little simpler than the sketch, but I like it that way.  Everything I tried to add beyond this point, just looked off.

I used the December Home for the Holidays Scraptastic kit and some old Theresa Collins papers that I had in my stash.

This is the sketch for the challenge.  If you want to play along you can enter HERE.

I am so happy to be scrapping some of these old photos! I feel like I may actually make some good progress catching up to 2014 before Baby BeautyScraps arrives :)

Sunday Samples: Fresh Soy Face Cleanser Review

Fresh Soy Face Cleanser

I really liked this cleanser!  It is a very gentle cleanser, but it removed all of my makeup easily, even my mascara!  It has a gel like consistency that creates a soft foamy lather as you massage it into damp skin.  It smells clean and fresh, a bit like cucumbers.  After cleaning my skin felt smooth and soft.

The photo above is the full size, 5.1oz. and is $38 at Sephora.

I still prefer my Bare Minerals Purifying facial cleanser.  It is actually very similar, but it has a pump bottle which I prefer and the 6 oz. size is $20 so it is easier on the wallet, too.

Have you tried the Fresh Soy Face Cleanser?
What is your favorite cleanser?

UnBoxing my Scraptastic Home for the Holidays Kit: December 2013

I just subscribed to Scraptastic's Kit Club and I'm so excited to show you my first 2 kits!  Because of the timing of when I signed up, I actually was able to get December and January's Kits together.  This post is just December's kit.  It is called Home for the Holidays.

I got 6 pieces of cardstock.  2 of each color.

The patterned paper (6 pieces total) are all double sided.
Above is the front and below is the back.

Again, above you see the front, below you see the back.

This is a full 12x12 sheet of Die Cuts from Theresa Collins.  I love her designs.  I think I still have some of one of her old Christmas collections in my stash.  I'll have to try to dig it up and see if I can mix and match :)

A full sheet of alphas was also included.  Alphas are always useful, but this style is not one of my favorites.

The sheet on the left is cut aparts and the sheet on the right is a sticker sheet.

These are the tags, twine and flair.  I just adore that deer tag!

And, last but not least... 3 die cuts and an assortment of wood veneers.

I'm really excited to dive into my first kit!  And, I have a stack of old Christmas photos ready to be scrapped so hopefully I will have some layouts to share with you soon!
